Newmarket Complex

Newmarket is the only thoroughbred sales complex in the world to be located in a capital city. Less than ten minutes to the Sydney CBD and Sydney Airport, two minutes to Royal Randwick Racecourse and the white sand of Coogee Beach, Newmarket is the perfect location to conduct a major international thoroughbred sale.

Newmarket

History

Inglis commenced selling at Newmarket in 1906 and purchased the property in 1917. The complex covers 11 acres of land and can accommodate up to 620 horses. Newmarket is home to the internationally renowned Easter Yearling and Broodmare sales. Both sales attract the best quality thoroughbreds for auction from Australia and New Zealand, and are attended by leading trainers and bloodstock agents from around the world. A world record for a broodmare sold at public auction in the southern hemisphere was achieved at Newmarket in 2008, when the regally bred Milanova was sold to a bid of $5 million from the Irish based Coolmore Stud.

Newmarket

Buildings

Newmarket has several heritage listed buildings, including the old Newmarket Hotel and Newmarket Stable, affectionately known as the “Big Barn”. The beauty of Newmarket is enhanced by the stunning fig trees and manicured gardens and lawns. The covered sales ring, restaurant and bar ensure visitors to Newmarket are well catered for.
