Burgeis Sells For $310,000 in Melbourne

Stakes winning Catbird mare Burgeis highlighted the opening day of the Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale, when selling to James Bester Bloodstock for $310,000.

Originally purchased out of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Aquanita Racing for $160,000, Burgeis was one of the top two-year-olds of her year, where she ran a slashing third in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

She trained on at three to post a Listed win over 1200m in Adelaide and she has earned prizemoney topping $210,000.

Her sale highlighted a day where nearly $1.3million was traded at a clearance rate of 84%.

"Burgeis was obviously the highlight of the day and her sale once again showed the strong demand for race mares and fillies off the track," Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

"We had a good buying bench in attendance today, with representatives from all states of Australia, in addition to New Zealand and even a couple from America.

"The strong competition was underlined by the excellent clearance rate."

The sale continues tomorrow from 10.30am with the yearling and racehorse section.

The sale will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day Live, with Online Bidding for those unable to attend.

All horses passed in through the ring today are still available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.
