Dystopia Makes It A Stakes Double for Redoute's

Breednet - Mark Smith - Saturday, 25 August 2012

As a full-sister to Golden Slipper winner and outstanding young sire Stratum, Dystopia (pictured as yearling) was assured a spot in any broodmare band regardless of her success on the racetrack however retirement to stud has been temporarily shelved for the late maturing six-year old following her game win in Saturday's Listed Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Warwick Farm.

It was the second stakes success for the daughter of Redoute's Choice following a hard-fought half-head victory the Listed ATC Triscay Stakes at Rosehill in February.

This came no easier. With Hugh Bowman fighting a slipped saddle, Dystopia clung to a narrow advantage over the fast finishing Crafty Irna.

"She's a real slow maturing horse that has gradually improved throughout her career,” trainer Chris Waller said.

"She hit the front at the top of the straight and it's a long straight no matter where you're racing and she had some good fillies chasing her.”

Waller said there were no lofty goals for Dystopia.

"We'll just keep picking the eyes out of them and try and win as many as possible,” he said.

With a record of 6 wins, 7 seconds and 2 thirds from 23 starts, Dystopia has returned $385,230 off her $800,000 price tag at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale. She was part of a near $18 million splurge by a cashed up Bob Ingham following the sale of the Woodlands racing and breeding empire to Darley.

Offered for sale by Reavill Farm, Dystopia and is the eighth foal of the Luskin Star mare Bourgeois who is proving to be a real money making machine since being purchased for $55,000 when carrying Stratum at the 20002 Easter Broodmare sale.

Bourgeois has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock and was not covered last season.

Dystopia was the second stakes-winner on the day for Arrowfield Stud's champion stallion Redoute's Choice following the victory of 3yo colt Albrecht in the Up and Coming Stakes (G3).
