Another Flying Filly for Stratum
13th Oct 2010
Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 13 October 2010
Reigning Champion First Season sire Stratum starred at Caulfield on Wednesday with brilliant two year-old filly Eramor, who scored a dominant debut win in the Listed MRC Debutants Stakes over 1000 metres.
Prepared by David Hayes for a syndicate of owners put together by Joe O’Neil’s Prime Thoroughbreds, Eramor turned in a thoroughly professional performance despite the lack of a pre-race trial, jumping swiftly from the outside gate to sit up with the leaders.
Given some rein and asked to go forward at the top of the straight by Danny Nikolic, Eramor bounded away to win by three lengths from Red Dress Marley and Exceedingly Regal.
“It was very professional and she does everything right, although she will be improved by the run so will be worth following to Flemington in Cup week for a nice fillies race,” said David Hayes.
“She’s got all her racing ahead of her and while she’s not a big filly, she looks bigger galloping!”
Danny Nikolic was impressed with the inexperienced filly, who gave him the easiest of rides.
“She was really well educated and jumped very sharply from the gates,” said Nikolic.
“She travelled well and then got a little bit lost when I gave her a smack, but she was holding them strongly.”
“It’s a great result as she was a cheap horse, just $30,000 from the sales in Sydney as a weanling,” explained Joe O’Neill.
“Her mother was a very smart stakes-winner (Romare) trained by Kris Lees and she’s by Stratum, who is such a good young sire, so it’s all very positive.
“Her name is her dam’s dame Romare spelled backwards, it’s always so hard to get a good name, but this one seemed obvious.”
Eramor is the first winner for the Marscay mare Romare, who won three races including the Listed Dark Jewel Quality at Scone.
Romare has already foaled this spring producing a colt by Bel Esprit.
Eramor is the third stakes-winner for Widden Stud based Golden Slipper winner Stratum (pictured), joining champion two year-old Crystal Lily and Pelizotti.
