Debut Win for Blue-Blood Encosta Filly
6th Sep 2012
Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 5 September 2012
Hoybell was the most expensive filly by champion sire Encosta de Lago sold in 2011, so it's no surprise she kicked off her career with a debut win at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The Chris Waller trained filly was unfancied by punters in a race packed with well-bred contenders, but belied her long odds to produce an eye catching win.
With well fancied runners Vaquera and Spurs and Sashes pouring on the pace up front, it was left to the backmarkers to run home with Adam Hyeronimus charting a winning passage on Hoybell to sprint home and win the 1100 metre maiden by half a length.
"Full credit to the winner to come from nowhere and find her way through the field to score a great win,” said Chris Waller.
Winning rider Adam Hyeronimus was full of praise for Hoybell.
"There's plenty of improvement in her as she is still very green,” he said.
"Next preparation she will be a really nice filly.”
Hoybell (pictured as a yearling) was a $690,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Ingham Racing from the draft of Willow Park Stud and is the first foal of former top class Kiwi filly Satinka, a Group I placed winner of the Group II Eight Carat Classic and Royal Stakes.
Chris Waller would have had a keen interest in this filly when she arrived at his stables as her mother Satinka is a half-sister to the dam of his great stable favourite Rangirangdoo, a $2million earner with highlight wins in the Group I AJC Doncaster Handicap and ATC George Ryder Stakes.
Hoybell has provided a great result for her breeder John Madgwick giving Satinka a winner with her first foal and the Stravinsky (USA) mare is due to foal again this spring to Fastnet Rock, the mating replicating the cross that is responsible for four-time Group I winner Mosheen.
