Easter Flemington Dominance Complete
13th Mar 2010
Easter’s dominance of Flemington’s Super Saturday was capped at today’s postponed version, with the legend Bart Cummings causing an Australian Guineas upset with emerging star Rock Classic and Zipping finally claiming a most deserved Group 1 success in the Australian Cup.
Easter graduates won five of the six races run last Saturday highlighted by Wanted’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap victory and today’s double completes the Group 1 set.
ROCK CLASSIC ($275,000 2008 Easter, 3g Fastnet Rock-Midnight Ballet) ticked off one of the few remaining races on the Australian calendar that Cummings had failed to win with his emphatic Guineas victory.
Bred and sold by Luskin Park Stud, Rock Classic is a grandson of former Blue Diamond winner Midnight Fever and Patinack Farm will offer a half-sister to him at next month’s Easter Sale.
The Encosta De Lago filly will be offered as Lot 575 as part of Easter Session II, which was also the origin of Cummings’ VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume.
Few horses deserved a Group 1 win more than ZIPPING (Four times G1 placed and a four times G2 winner prior to today, Zipping denied Cummings the big double when he nosed out Sirmione to claim the Australian Cup.
The eight-year-old, who was bred by Swettenham Stud, has now won 14 races for earnings topping $3.3million and he joins the elite list of 89 worldwide G1 winners for the great Danehill.
The 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be held in Sydney from April 6-8.
