Fastnet Rock Yearling Tops Off Buoyant Sydney Sale
29th Jun 2012
The 2012 Inglis Australian Weanling and Bloodstock Sale came to a close today at Newmarket in Sydney, where over $6 million was traded on thoroughbred racing and breeding stock over the past three days.
82% of Friday’s offerings of General Session Broodmares and Mixed Bloodstock were sold, taking the overall sale aggregate to $6,476,400, up 12% on last year’s sale.
The complete sale statistics by session, sire, buyer and vendor are available on the Australian Weanling & Bloodstock Sale page HERE
The highest price for the day was recorded by Lot 576, a colt by Fastnet Rock from Mis Excitabull. A late withdrawal from Easter due to minor injury the colt was offered by Fairhill Farm and sold to David Hayes Racing for $100,000.
“85% of all stock offered in Sydney this week was sold, a great result, and I have no doubt that given the depth of buying bench assembled for the weanlings if we had more quality lots entered they also would have found very suitable new homes,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
Private sales over the past few days have taken the clearance rate for the Select Session Weanlings to 84%, with the average finishing at $23,931.
“Over 80 individual buyers from all states of Australia, as well as New Zealand, Singapore, Macau and Hong King featured during the Select Session Weanlings, a clear indication that the market for quality weanlings in Australia is far more than just pinhookers,” Webster added.

All weanlings, broodmares, yearlings and racing stock that passed-in over the last three days are still available via the Inglis Make-An-Offer service.
The next sales on the Inglis calendar are the Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale on 16 & 17 August at Oaklands, followed by the Scone Broodmare Sale at White Park on 24 August. Entry forms for both sales can be downloaded from the Inglis website HERE
