Inglis Select Weanlings Average Up 44% at Newmarket
24th Jun 2010
Massive increases in trade at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale were recorded in Sydney, with $4,840,500 traded during the opening select session.
Backed by an excellent 84% clearance, the average soared to $30,831, a rise of 44% on the 2009 Select sale figures.
Today’s gross is already up 38% on the entire Select sale gross from last year, despite only being two thirds of the way through the Select catalogue.
Dean Hawthorne went to $220,000 to secure the day’s highest priced lot, a full-brother to the stakes winning Sharkbite. The Redoute’s Choice-Back Pass colt (pictured) was sold by Bellerive Stud.
A Fastnet Rock filly from the Select Bloodstock Unreserved Dispersal went the way of New Zealand’s Curraghmore Stud for $170,000.
Completing a clean sweep for New Zealand buyers on the top three weanlings sold today, Lyndhurst Farm secured the Lonhro-Silver Success colt from Attunga Stud for $150,000.
The Select session continues tomorrow with another 110 lots, before the sale concludes with the General Weanling Session.
"This year's catalogue has been our best yet, not just in terms of numbers but quality as well," said Inglis Director Jonathan D'Arcy.
"It's great to see the vendors being rewarded with excellent results.
"We're extremely pleased to have such a large contingent of New Zealand buyers who have been very active with inspections on the grounds here over the past few days."
Horses passed in today and during yesterday’s Bloodstock session are still available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer Service.
Tomorrow’s final session will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day Live, with Online Bidding available for those unable to attend.
