Pampelonne impressive in $500,000 Inglis Guineas
19th May 2012
Last start Gosford Guineas winner Pampelonne continued his unbeaten record this campaign, galloping away to an impressive victory in the $500,000 Inglis 3YO Guineas (1400m) at Scone on Saturday afternoon.
The Tim Martin trained three-year-old held a three and a half-length margin on the line over second placegetter Flying Fuji after today’s 1400m journey, with Group 2 ATC Phar Lap Stakes winner Colorado Claire back in third.
Pampelonne (pictured as yearling) has stepped up to every challenge his connections have thrown at him this year, with today’s win emulating that of subsequent Stradbroke winner Sincero who completed the Gosford-Inglis Guineas double twelve months ago. After the win Martin indicated that Pampelonne would be on his way to Brisbane next week with the Stradbroke on June 9 the main aim.
Bred by Black Caviar’s part-owner Neil Werrett Pampelonne ($140,000 2010 Easter, 3g Rock Of Gibraltar-Jestajewel) was sold through Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale to trainer Tim Martin on behalf of former Chairman of Racing NSW Alan Bell. In a great sight three generations of the Bell family came together on the winner’s podium at the Scone Race Club this afternoon.
The striking son of Rock of Gibraltar has now won four and placed another two times from all six of his career starts for Bell, with today’s lucrative feature win taking the galloper’s career prizemoney earnings to $645,000.
The connections of Flying Fuji were also full of joy after the Guineas, as the filly collected $100,000 for second place, which is 25 times her $4,000 purchase price paid at last year’s Inglis Scone Yearling Sale.
Buyers next chance to pick up a Inglis Race Series eligible horse is at tomorrow’s 2012 Inglis H.T.B.A Scone Yearling Sale at White Park, with selling at the great value sale set to begin at the earlier time of 10:30am. All yearlings sold at this sale are eligible for nomination to the lucrative $5m Inglis Race Series including the new $2.4m Inglis Triple Crown Bonus.
Also presented at the Scone Race Club today was the $50,000 Inglis Trainers Bonus for 2010 Inglis Select Yearling Sale graduates, which was taken home by John O’Shea thanks to two series wins by Hendricus and one by Elite Falls.
