Record entries for Inglis Equine Art Award
6th Aug 2012
Entries for the Inglis Equine Art Prize, the only truly annual global art event held in Australia, have topped 134. This is up 50% on last year says Australian Art Sales™ Director Mike Coward and includes artists from around the world.
The inaugural competition was held last year and won by New South Wales artist Kristin Hardiman. The theme this year was ‘At the Track’ and 34 works of art representing 30 artists across four countries have been chosen as the finalists.
Prize money worth $18,000 is up for grabs and the winner will be announced at a gala viewing at Inglis’ headquarters in Newmarket, Randwick on Thursday 9 August.
Public viewings of the 34 finalists works will be held in NSW on the 10th, 11th and 12th August at Inglis Newmarket, Young Street Randwick from 10:00-17:00. In Victoria on the 16th and 17th August at Inglis, 285 Oaklands Road, Oaklands Junction from 11:00-17:00. And in the Hunter Valley, NSW on the 25th and 26th August at the Scone Arts and Crafts Centre, Kingdon Street, from 10:00-17:00.
The public will be able to view and purchase any of the 34 works, seven of which are of world champion sprinter, Black Caviar.
Says Mr Coward: “Artists submitted scenes from race days or training on the track and it had to include at least one thoroughbred horse.”
The judges include Nafisa Naomi, Alister Simpson and Arthur Inglis.
