Smart Win for Dayita
21st Jul 2012
Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 21 July 2012
Saluting in the final event at Flemington on Saturday was the progressive Peter Moody trained filly Dayita, a $80,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Widden Stud.
Dayita relished the step out to 1700 metres, finishing doggedly for Luke Nolen to score by a neck with three lengths back to the third horse, her overall record now four wins and three placings from 11 starts with prizemoney in excess of $129,000.
"She's becoming a bit dour at this stage of her preparation, but we thought she could turn it around today,” said stable foreman Jeff O'Conner.
"She had a perfect run, so it was a good result.”
Winning rider Luke Nolen was well pleased with the daughter of Show a Heart and believes she can run further.
"She's a very resilient filly,” he said.
"She does have a turn of foot and I think you'll see that when she get up to a mile and a quarter.”
Bred by long time Widden Stud client Robert Anderson, Dayita (pictured as a yearling) is the first foal of the winning Testa Rossa mare Stellana, who comes from the family of stakes-winners Delgara and Inkster.
Stellana has a weanling colt by Widden Stud's promising young sire Dreamscape.
