3rd Mar 2012
Might And Power’s relation Mosheen may have been the headline act, but other Inglis graduates purchased for as low as $1,250 also recorded valuable stakes wins around Australia today.
Over in Western Australia two-year-old filly Miss Solis ($32,000 2011 Classic, Oratorio(IRE)-Longoria) kept her unbeaten record intact when winning the Listed WATC Supremacy Stakes over 1100m at Ascot.
Purchased by her trainer Simon Miller from Classic the daughter of Oratorio (IRE) has now won all three starts for prizemoney totalling $117,000.
Last year’s Classic sale is also the source of Fire Thunderbolt, which won today’s two-year-old event at Flemington, the Listed VRC Streets Ice Cream Stakes over 1000m.
Fire Thunderbolt ($26,000 2011 Classic, 2g California Dane-Spirited and Sexy) is also undefeated so far, having saluted at Morphettville on debut last month for his Adelaide based trainer Phillip Stokes, who selected the youngster from the Sydney Classic Sale twelve months ago.
Also at Flemington bargain buy Rockpecker ($1,250 2004 June Weanling, 8g Made Of Gold-Gaelic Waltz) took his prizemoney past the $600,000 mark with victory in the Listed VRC TAB Quaddie Handicap over 1400m.
“My sister and her grand-daughter came to a weanling sale with me, they really liked the horse and we bought him for $1,250 and it’s been a pretty lucky ride since then,” said Rockpecker’s trainer Ken Fythe after today’s win.
Rockpecker has had 57 career starts for nine wins, seven of which have come with Craig Williams in the saddle, and a further 15 placing’s.
In Sydney the Gai Waterhouse trained three-year-old Nobby Snip ($185,000 2010 Easter, 3g Snippetson-Pine Away) landed his third win in a row this preparation when making the step to stakes level in style to take out the Listed ATC Fireball Quality (1100m) at Rosehill.
The son of Snippetson was sold by Widden Stud at Easter to Hong Kong agent Apollo Ng, who made the trip to Rosehill following a busy week at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
“This is our first stakes winner with Gai, we’ve got about 8 at the moment with Gai and hopefully all eight can be stakes winners,” said Apollo Ng.
Mr Ng has been a regular at Easter since his first purchase at the sale twenty years ago in 1993.
