More Than Ready Filly Tops Classic Day 2

27th Apr 2008

A filly bred on the same cross as Golden Slipper and AJC Sires Produce winner Sebring topped the second day of the Classic Session of the William Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale today.

The filly, by More Than Ready from the Flying Spur mare Charmeuse, was offered by Sledmere Stud and knocked down to Greentrees Pty Ltd for $160,000.

She was one of seven yearlings to fetch $100,000 or more today.

Later, George Moore Bloodstock, Hong Kong, secured a Commands colt from the Bigstone mare Glenbawn for $130,000, while NSW based Storm Bloodstock paid the same price for an O’Reilly colt from the Casual Lies mare Irish Lies.

Others to top the six figure mark included two fillies by Cape Cross and colts by Jeune and Danehill Dancer.

Total receipts for the Classic sale went past the $7million mark today, while the average stayed solid at just above $29,000.

“The sale has maintained a consistent pace with good competition on those yearlings warranting the better money,” William Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan Darcy said.

“It was pleasing to see seven horses top the $100,000 mark, while other buyers have secured excellent value for money over the first two days – as people have come to expect at Classic.”

“The progeny of first season sires were particularly well received.”

Graduates from this sale that nominate for the Inglis Race Series will be running for a prize pool of $250,000 in next year’s Inglis Classic (1200m) which will be part of the $2.5million Inglis Race Series comprising races and bonuses across Victoria, ACT and NSW.

The third and concluding day of the 2008 Classic Session begins from 11am at Newmarket tomorrow.
