Typhoon a Real Classic

Inglis graduates have opened up the new season where they

finished off the last, with Typhoon Zed taking the first Group 1 race on the 2008-09 calendar.

The Tim Martin trained TYPHOON ZED ($62,500 2005 Classic, 5g Zeditave-Royal Diploma) had previously

triumphed at the highest level when taking last season’s G1 AJC The Galaxy and made it a second when turning in a courageous display to take the Manikato Stakes yesterday.

The five-year-old son of Zeditave had to work across from a

wide barrier but showed great tenacity to hold off all challengers in the straight.

Typhoon Zed was one of 14 individual Group 1 winners for

Inglis in Australia last season, helping make it the leading agent for Group 1 winners in 2007-08.

In all, Inglis graduates won 19 Australian Group 1 races

last season, following on from 21 races which also made it the leading agent in 2006-07.

Today’s victory continues that winning trend, providing the

perfect start to the new season of top level racing.

Typhoon Zed, who was offered for sale by Widden Stud, has

been a tremendous money spinner for connections, with his earnings closing in on the $1million mark, with seven wins in 17 starts.

Earlier at Moonee Valley, DAN BARONESS ($70,000 2007 Premier, 3f Statue Of Liberty-Weekend

Surprise) opened her stakes winning account when taking the Group 3 Champagne Stakes.

The filly was offered for sale by Blue Gum Farm and led home

a quinella for Premier graduates, with ORTENSIA ($50,000 2007 Premier, 3f Testa Rossa-Aerate’s Pick) a fast finishing second in the 1200m event.

Other Inglis graduates to impress yesterday included CHARMING ROGUE ($50,000 2006 Classic,

4g Commands-Rhythmic Charm), DISCIPLINED ($650,000 2006 Easter, 4m Anabaa-Orderly) and LORNE DANCER ($70,000 2006 Classic, 4g Danehill Dancer-Fabled), with all now likely to be set for better races after their respective impressive victories at Rosehill.

Moonee Valley winner BENATAR

($55,000 2005 Premier, 5m Distant Music-Rather Yallah) will also now chase black type races, while stakes winning sprinter LUCKY SECRET ($220,000 2005 Easter, 5g Rubiton-Won’t Tell) made a welcome return to winning form with a dominant display over the 1000m course.
