Sale Overview

2010 Melbourne March Thoroughbred Sale catalogue

The 2010 Melbourne March Thoroughbred Sale produced lively trade and strong competition on a high percentage of lots, as 278 horses sold for a gross just short of $1.6million.

Highlighting the sale was the 92% clearance rate, with successful buyers coming from all states of Australia, in addition to New Zealand and the Philippines.

Darley Stud’s annual reduction contributed strongly to the sale, with six of the top eight lots coming from the draft, including the day’s highest priced lot, the Lion Cavern mare Cat’s Cradle selling to Three Bridges for $51,000 carrying a positive test to Exceed And Excel.

"Horses with attractive racing and breeding credentials attracted strong competition right throughout the day," Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

"We were very pleased to have Darley’s strong representation and the results achieved from that reduction were very satisfying both for Inglis and Darley."

Other Darley highlights included Pirouettes (in foal to Street Sense) for $44,000 and the Fusaichi Pegasus-Danglissa mare Meduesa (in foal to Henny Hughes) for $41,000.

Talented sprinter Allied Force, offered for sale by Lindsay Park Racing, was knocked down for $50,000. Lindsay Park also sold the full-brother to dual Group 1 winner Mnemosyne, who fetched $40,000 to the bid of James Bester.

Horses passed in during the sale are still available for Sale via the Make an Offer service.
